Tuesday's Tales ...

A few things to share this week.

I've committed to join a quilt-along with Polly (see button in my right sidebar).   The first thing is picking out and purchasing our fabrics.  There's still plenty of time for you to join, check out the first post here

These are the fabrics I have ordered from Sisters And Quilters.  I'll be stalking the mailman again!

I completed a custom order today for a co-worker's granddaughter.  Said granddaughter picked out her fabrics and brought them to me.

I also have another custom order to complete this week.  Another co-worker's daughter has moved into her first apartment and needs pillow covers.  Daughter bought fabric and brought it to me, I will be making envelope back type pillow covers.

These are the two fabrics she chose (the beige is the sofa).

And, today I got Gabbie's bed moved from the small bedroom, to the large bedroom (which is also her playroom) so now I can start setting up the small bedroom for a sewing room!  Yay!

And ... when Baby Brother came to help move the bed, he says he has a dining table I can use as long as I need it (which of course will be forever unless he decides he wants it back!)  He says he hasn't used it for anything but a catch-all in years (if he eats at home he eats in the living room in front of the tv).

Hoping to get it set up soon (maybe this weekend if Baby Brother can deliver the table for me).   It will be wonderful to have a dedicated space that doesn't have to be picked up, moved, put out of reach of little hands. I can just close the door and leave everything ready to use.

I'll keep you posted on the progress.

New Neighbors

During this last week we have had rain every day.  Fortunately for my area, not flooding - about 5 inches over 6 days - but consistently dreary and wet.

Yesterday I discovered that I have new neighbors.  Though I did not see them, I have seen their houses popping up.  Papa Smurf must be keeping them all busy.  I thought for sure I'd see Lazy Smurf napping under one of these lovelies.

Satellite dish.

Swimming pool.

New subdivision.

And this surely must belong to Smurfette!

I Won! I Won!

Yes!  I really did win twice!

There were several bloggers doing giveaways recently, and of course I entered them all (didn't you?)

I got notified on the same day by two different bloggers that I had won their giveaways.  And today, both prizes arrived.  Yay me!  :-)

First of all, let me say these pictures don't do the products justice.  It is raining here (has been for four days) so natural lighting is practically non-existent.  I did get as near the window as I could but it's pretty gray outside.

This package is from Patty at The Simple Stitch.

Four great fat quarters, and one piece of yardage.  Aren't they all wonderful?

And a block kit.  Pre-measured fabric and the pattern for the block.

And two wonderful buttons.

And another pattern.

The second prize is from Sherri at A Quilting Life.  A copy of her wonderful book, A Quilting Life, Creating A Handmade Home.

Wonderful projects (19 of them!); full color photos with patterns and instructions for quilts, bags, pillows, and more!

A couple of the things I want to try first (I'll start small and work my way to big) are this hexagon bag (I haven't made hexies yet so small is definitely the way to start!)

And I love Dresdens, so I'm going to try this pillow.  I can get it done by Christmas, right?

Thank you so much Patty and Sherri for offering such great giveaways.

A Couple of Friday Finishes ...

Worked on the baby quilt a bit more today.  Mostly just added some more straight-ish line quilting to go with my previous stitching in the vicinity of the ditch quilting. Ha!

Also finished up two more purses I had cut out a couple of weeks ago.  These are now in the Etsy shop

I also finished a birthday present for a friend, but she keeps up with my Sewy Stuff so I can't post it until I send it off to her.

One thing I did find today while trying to quilt ... I already knew, but confirmed ... I really need a LARGE dedicated bright workspace!!  The kitchen table is okay for some cutting and piecing, but I need lots of room for quilting, and I need to be able to leave it all out and not have to pick up the bulk of it before the 4-yr-old comes over to visit.

I'm working on re-arranging a couple of rooms to get a room that I can use just for me.  Then I can just close the door when anyone (not just the 4-yr-old) comes to visit.  The main thing I will need to get is a large workspace, but I think my mom has an old formica topped dining table that was my grandmothers that I can get and put a large cutting mat on for it (my current mat is only 18 x 24, great for cutting pieces, but it's gonna be tough squaring up this quilt!)

So, that's where I am on this Friday.  Looking forward to seeing everyone else's projects.

I Got Mail !

My first 'mail order' fabric.  I figured I better get a head start on Christmas!

I ordered from Fat Quarter Shop, and they threw in a free pattern from Jaybird Quilts.

Now I'll have to order more fabric to use the new pattern!

(This is going to become an addiction isn't it?)
