Lots and Lots o' Fabric!

Hancock Fabric had a sale this weekend.  40% off of most fabrics.  Plus a coupon for 20% off your entire purchase.  And my friend I've had the longest, Debra, gave me a gift card for my birthday this weekend.  Score!

So off to Hancock I went.  I got dots.  Lots and lots o' dots.  Big dots, little dots, white dots, 'on white' dots.  I also got a few florals.  And flannels.  With sale prices and the extra coupon, it averaged out to about $3.55 a yard.

So the next day I had to run some errands in the opposite direction.  And there just happens to be a Hancock in that direction too.  It's a little bit smaller store, but they had a pretty good selection as well.

I got a few solids (well, they are kind of solid) ..... and some turquoise / black / grey that I love.  And lots and lots o' florals.

Closeup of a few of my favorites.  The turquoise/black/grey of course.  Some Noah's ark flannel. Little baby footprint flannel.  And that bird / floral print is not really a flannel but is more of a brushed cotton.  It's very soft.

The haul from the second day averaged out to about $3.60 a yard.  Never mind how much total I spent, I got value for my $$$$$$!!  I just wish the Kona solids had been on sale.  But I can order those online cheaper than it would've been even with the 20% off coupon. Gosh, if I could've gotten those for less than $4/yd there's no telling how much money I would've spent!!!

Also, BabyGurl's "church ladies" gave her a shower this weekend.  Lots of great outfits, a mobile, some bibs, onsies and other accessories. But these were her favorites.  A rocking chair (wow! what a great gift!) and one of her "youth" gave her some Batman accessories.  Batman is BabyGurl's favorite.  Aren't the capes on those shoes just the cutest thing?

Triangle Quilt ... Progress ....

Got my backing last week for my triangle quilt.  Got it pieced last night.

And if you missed it ..... here is the finished top.

Not looking forward to basting ... but I am looking forward to having a finished quilt.

I loved my fabrics when I purchased them and took the first photos for the quilt-along.  As I begin cutting and laying out, I wasn't real happy with them.  Everyone was very complimentary along the way though (thank you all!) and when I finally got it done and got outside to take a pic, I liked it again.

I think I'm going to be really happy with the finished product.  (Although I still have find a binding fabric!)

I'm going to call this one "Garden Wall".  I think my Mom will get this for Mother's Day. Shhhhh, don't tell her! (She's actually seen pics of it along the way, but it will still be a surprise to get it.)

You can see all the photos from everyone in the quilt-along in our flickr group.  There are some amazing quilts there!!

Vacation ...

Last week was my annual week in Nashville with my friend Linda.  (This year we actually stayed in Franklin, rather than downtown Nashville, and did most of our eating and playing in Franklin)

We heard lots of great music.

Tuesday night, Danny Wells, T Graham Brown, Eddy Raven, Frank Myers and Jimmy Nichols. Every year we manage to see at least one "iconic" show and this was the one this year.

Friday night, our friend D Vincent Williams.

And Saturday night, FAB, a Beatles cover band.  This week they counted down the top 30 Beatles songs according to Rolling Stone magazine.  The drummer, Tim Buppert, is an acquaintance of ours and has a great voice.

And of course food, lots of food ....

Those sweet potato fries are from Puckett's.  Best sweet potato fries evuh!  No matter what I order to eat at Puckett's, I always get a side of sweet potato fries.

The malted shake (mine) and mango smoothie (Linda's) are from Mike's Ice Cream on Broadway in Nashiville.   The best ice cream and milkshakes I've ever had (and ok, I've had more than my share).

And I tried escargot Thursday night. It wasn't too bad.  Truthfully, about all I could taste was the garlic.  I'd like to have them again sometime, cooked some other way than just swimming in garlic.

We did some sight seeing.  This is The Carter House.

And The Lotz House and the Franklin Courthouse.

We ran out of time but will visit The Carnton Plantation on the next trip.

I visited a couple of quilt shops.  At The Quilting Squares I bought a kit for a quilt top with the Giggles fabrics and they also had the 'welcome' sign pictured below.  At The Stitchers Garden I was so overwhelmed I just rummaged through the fat quarter bundles and got the Dr Seuss bundle and got the heck outta there.  It was a huge place and it was floor to ceiling bolts of fabric.  It was piled everywhere, even stacked in the floor.  I couldn't make head or tails of it.  I'm sure if I'd gone in there looking for something specific I could've asked for it and they would've gotten it for me, but it was just not a 'browser friendly' place for me.

I bought a few fabrics (the pink and aqua ones) at Hobby Lobby, and the shelf came from a going out of business KMart.  The shelves are wonderful, and I'm regretting not getting two of them.  I might have to do some online shopping later.  :-)

It was a great vacation.  Tomorrow it's back to "the real world" for me.  And I have to catch up on my Triangle Quilt Along with Sassy Quilter!!

My Little Pretties ...

Finally!  A chance to get an outdoor pic of the top I made from the Charm Pack Cherry pattern.

And yesterday I got a chance to do a little shopping at Hobby Lobby and picked up some grey dots for the backing.  After she measured out what I needed there was a wee bit left (just over a half yard) so I took it all.  You can never ever have too much of either grey or dots right?

I still need something for binding.  I was hoping for some grey/white stripe the same shade of this grey dot, but alas, not to be found (yet).

And just because I love it - another pic!

And more of my haul from Hobby Lobby.  I always forget that they have fabrics there.  It's not all that far, but it's in a direction I never travel. Their selection is not large, but they have some really cute / pretty fabrics.

The green, and green/grey/black/white is for BabyGurl's baby girl's (due in July) diaper bag.  BabyGurl does not care for pink, but she loooooovvvvves green.

The school print, and the alphabet print (that's duck canvas) came from fabric.com (I've been shopping with them a lot lately); all the others came from Hobby Lobby yesterday.  The puppies are flannel.
So, I am going to be busy busy busy.  And I just ordered more fabric today, for BabyGurl's baby girl a baby quilt (again, light on the pink!)

Lots O' Fabric!

I'm excited to be a part of The Sassy Quilter's Triangle Quilt Along starting in just a couple of weeks.

I ordered my ruler from Joann Fabrics (they had it on sale for $7.99!) and it came this week.   And I used my eBates account (click here to sign up with my referral link) and earned 4% cash back.

Today I went shopping at Hancock Fabrics to look for fabrics for the quilt, and to use the gift cards my kids gave me for Christmas.  I went with a turquoise and pink palette in mind but after perusing the fabrics I abandoned that idea and ended up with this:

Though there is some turquoise and pink in there, I was mostly searching for fabrics that had a bit of black to tie them all together.  I think I "done good" if I do say so myself!

I did not however get backing and binding yet.  I usually take a while to mull over the fabrics for the quilt then decide on backing as I'm nearing the completion of the top.  On the ride home I was kind of kicking myself though for not getting enough of that middle fabric on the left, (the colored shapes) for the backing.  Oh well.

And afterward I stopped by Walmart for a few necessities and of course walked down their fabric aisle.  (Only one Walmart within 50 miles has a fabric section, and it's really only about 3/4 of an aisle).  They do have some decent novelty prints (I got the fabric for Sadie's diaper bags and changing pad there) and occasionally something like this will grab my attention:

I saw the print and it screamed DENIM ... but it's not, it's really just a quilting weight cotton, but I just had to have it.  So I got some solid to coordinate (it looks a little funky in this pic but 'in real life' it just looks like a dark denim, the same shade as the dark in the print).

I'm going to make myself a purse out of it.  I am after all, a denim gal.  (I actually got enough to make two bags so I can share the love!)

Help! I Need Pattern Ideas!!

I need pattern ideas for some of my 'near and dear to me' fabrics.

My hero, Betty Boop.  :-)

 (15 fat quarters)

I bought this bundle (24 fat quarters) of Keep It Sassy from Green Fairy Quilts.  I'd been eyeing this line forever, but could only find odd and end pieces here and there until recently.

And this lovely bundle (half yards) of Norwegian Woods came from Stash Modern Fabrics.

I'm still way new to this quilting thing, and I need ideas for patterns that will showcase the fabrics. So far I've only made quilts that consist of squares (anywhere from 5" to 10") and one with half-hexies.

Welcome 2014!

Here's to new projects!

I got this fabric in the mail a few weeks ago, but just didn't have time to break into it until last week.

The layout below is the one I've decided to go with.
It makes the best use of the squares I have, without having to purchase another charm pack.

I am using this tutorial (but I used three charm packs instead of two).

And, my most recent purchase from Fat Quarter Shop!  I got on the waiting list for this one so I could get it right away.  I don't know yet what I will make with it, but it will be for ME!

This was Gabbie-Lou-Who's baby doll quilt.  I forgot to take a pic of it after it was finished.  I also forgot to take pics of the taggy/lovey thingies that I made for her baby doll and for *Sadie Mae.

This was a quick project I made for Gabbie at the last minute.  I made one for her house and one for my house.

And these are two of the gifts I got from my kids.  Yes, the both got me the same thing, and neither knew the other had done so until I was opening gifts!  :-)

I also got this from my son.  I was so excited!  I had to keep slapping my dad's hands away from it til I could get it loaded into my car!

I have used it, taken it apart and cleaned it, and put it back together (though I have to say the putting back together would've been much easier with three hands instead of two!)

Gabbie Lou doing a little sewing on NYE.
(She 'sews' with scraps, rulers, and pencils)

And of course, a happy baby picture!

And her first taste of her MawMaw's (great grandmother's) mashed potatoes. They were a hit!

*Sadie Mae's real name is Sadie Lynn.  But Gamma can call her whatever she wants, right?

I Got Mail !!

The small package is MY package.  I will make something for ME.  I have been wanting this fabric for a while but have had difficulty finding a complete 'set' of it ...

This is "Keep It Sassy" by Olive Sandwiches.

I ordered it from Green Fairy Quilts on Cyber Monday.
(Right now they still have one bundle available)

Joann's was running a 50% off batting sale, and FREE shipping!  So I decided this was a good time to try the 'Warm' batting I've heard so much about.

I still have one package yet to come.  Charm squares (Sunnyside) that I want to use to make my mom a quilt.  But it will not be for Christmas!!

Have you considered joining ebates?  Cash back for online purchases you were going to make anyway!!

New Projects ...

Got a couple of new things going on.  Well, almost going on; I bought the fabric today.

First up is my second quilt-along with Polly ... This one is Nativity In The Trees.  She has posted the first lesson and it is fabric selection and yardage requirements.  So it's definitely not too late to sign up to quilt along with us.  I'm looking forward to it.  Polly's instructions are very easy to follow and if you have any questions she responds promptly with her answers.

This is my fabric selection in the basket in the cutting line this morning at Hancock's (they had 50% off almost everything in the store!)

(This is my first trip to the cutting table.  I made three trips.  The ladies at the cutting table and I are great friends now!)

And here it is all laid out (as the day's light was fading, but the colors are pretty true)

Closeup of what I'm planning to use as backing.

And for another project, my first quilt "for hire".

A friend's little boy wants a John Deere quilt so I picked the fabrics today - I got some of every JD fabric they had.  Would've loved to have another couple of selections but I can work with this.

I'm planning to make it similar to how I have it laid out here.  Large squares of the four prints, sashed with (narrow) strips of the yellow, and bound in the blue check with the tires for the back.

This will be my first quilt that was specially ordered but she gave me free reign with it as long as it is John Deere.  So at least I've got that covered!

(And while I was posting this she text'd me to ask if I had any luck finding fabrics and I showed her this layout and she replied with "Oh my gosh! I cant wait!"; so I guess I did ok.)

I also picked up some random Christmas fat quarters for $1 each.  I'll  make coasters or mug rugs or something out of these.  Or I may be so busy with the two quilts that these just sit til next year!

And, this cute owl fabric.  Who could resist this at 50% off? :-)

I also got other miscellaneous items such as zippers, thread, interfacing etc while there was such a great sale going on.

Tuesday's Tales ...

This is what I'm currently working on ... Some four-patches.  My first time to use this block, and I LOVE IT!!

I still need to make eight more blocks though to get the size I want.

(Oops, I just noticed some of those bottom blocks are turned the wrong way!  It's ok, they're not sewn together yet!)

This is what I got in the mail today from Stash Modern Fabric.

Norwegian Woods Half Yard Bundle - Michael Miller

Hip Holiday Fat Quarter Bundle - Josephine Kimberling for Blend

They were on sale and I got free shipping on my order over $50.

These pictures just do not do justice to these beautiful fabrics.

I've been eyeing that Hip Holiday fabric for several months.  Last week I saw the Norwegian Woods bundle on Stash Modern's Facebook Page and I had to have it.  Like right then!  So I added the Hip Holiday to get me over the $50 free shipping limit!

I also went to Hancock Fabrics 50% off Columbus Day sale yesterday, but that's gonna have to wait for another post.  I got a lot.  (But I saved 55% off batting, then saved an additional 10% off my entire order with a coupon, so "I done good!"  :-)

And, I've also caved to the 'peer pressure' (ok, no pressure, it just seemed like a good idea) and joined Bloglovin' - so follow me!!  (I'll try not to lead you astray!)

Down By The Creek ....

Bear Creek that is ....

Last week Shari of Bear Creek Quilting Company offered a giveaway to the readers of Sherri's blog A Quilting Life and lo and behold, I won!

It took me a while to decide (so many choices) but I finally placed my order and these goodies arrived today (only two days after I placed the order!)

Shari graciously gave a $50 gift certificate, (and I over-spent  by about $9) and got all these goodies!

(I 'm only telling you how much I actually spent so you can see how much fabric I got for the money).

Fat Quarter Bundle #515
(This is actually 8 fat quarters, I forgot to take a pic of the other side, they are folded inside each other)

City Blocks Lime and Gray Fat Quarter Bundle by Benartex

Scrollwork Collection Fat Quarter Bundle by Studio E Fabrics

Thanks so much to Shari and Sherri for teaming up for this great giveaway!

So, even this isn't a sewing finish (or sewing at all), I think it's a pretty big Whoop Whoop for the week! I was certainly yelling "whoop whoop" when I got notified I won (and when I got the package in the mail!)
