Lots and Lots o' Fabric!

Hancock Fabric had a sale this weekend.  40% off of most fabrics.  Plus a coupon for 20% off your entire purchase.  And my friend I've had the longest, Debra, gave me a gift card for my birthday this weekend.  Score!

So off to Hancock I went.  I got dots.  Lots and lots o' dots.  Big dots, little dots, white dots, 'on white' dots.  I also got a few florals.  And flannels.  With sale prices and the extra coupon, it averaged out to about $3.55 a yard.

So the next day I had to run some errands in the opposite direction.  And there just happens to be a Hancock in that direction too.  It's a little bit smaller store, but they had a pretty good selection as well.

I got a few solids (well, they are kind of solid) ..... and some turquoise / black / grey that I love.  And lots and lots o' florals.

Closeup of a few of my favorites.  The turquoise/black/grey of course.  Some Noah's ark flannel. Little baby footprint flannel.  And that bird / floral print is not really a flannel but is more of a brushed cotton.  It's very soft.

The haul from the second day averaged out to about $3.60 a yard.  Never mind how much total I spent, I got value for my $$$$$$!!  I just wish the Kona solids had been on sale.  But I can order those online cheaper than it would've been even with the 20% off coupon. Gosh, if I could've gotten those for less than $4/yd there's no telling how much money I would've spent!!!

Also, BabyGurl's "church ladies" gave her a shower this weekend.  Lots of great outfits, a mobile, some bibs, onsies and other accessories. But these were her favorites.  A rocking chair (wow! what a great gift!) and one of her "youth" gave her some Batman accessories.  Batman is BabyGurl's favorite.  Aren't the capes on those shoes just the cutest thing?

Limeade ...

New quilt Limeade ... finished.

My favorite of all the photos.

I had one little glitch.  When I got done I washed it and a small part of the binding came loose.  So I unstitched the binding all the way around and restitched with a zigzag.  Not quite as pretty but very durable.  It has been rewashed/dried and held up well.

Lots more pics are available in my facebook album, and it is also listed in my Etsy shop.

WIP Wednesday

I finally had some time the past couple of weeks to work on something that was not "for" anybody.  So I googled some fat quarter and layer cake pattern/tutorials and found this one for fat quarters.

It calls for 12 fat quarters, but I had a bundle that had nine coordinating quarters, so that is what I used.  My finished quilt will be approx 40" square.

Then I saw this striped fabric on the Fat Quarter Shop's Flash Sale page, and thought it would make a perfect backing.  It's not a 100% match but for the backing I think it will be great.

I've never used a striped backing before and I'm pretty sure the stripes are gonna be a little 'off' along the edges, but I'm not gonna obsess over it too much.

I have it almost basted and hope to start quilting on it in the next day or so.  Between keeping the grandbaby a couple of times this week, and my daughter's upcoming baby shower this weekend, it might be a week or two before I get it done.  I'm in no hurry.

Really Random Stuff ....

Last week I posted the flannel / minky blanket I have made for BabyGurl's baby girl.  It's just a layer of flanner and a layer of minky, and topstitched around the edge.

I also made some burp cloths.  I put a layer of batting in the burp cloths to make them more absorbent so I quilted an X through them to help hold the batting in place after multiple washings.

Yes this picture is very blurry, don't look at it long, it will make your eyes water, but I did such a good job of rolling those burp cloths for the photo, and aren't my flowers pretty?

New project I am starting on.  Fat quarters pressed and starched, ready for cutting.

Sherri @ A Quilting Life emailed me last week to let me know I had won a giveaway she sponsored.  Today I got these lovelies in the mail:

Looking forward to working with this rainbow of colors!

And, just for the heck of it, today's throwback Thursday pic.
My son on the right, his daughter on the left.  Each at about seven months old.

Flannel Frogs ...

Last weekend I finished BabyGurl's diaper bag and accessory pack.

Last night I finished a flannel and minky blanket.
And though she's not a fan of pink, she is a big fan of frogs, so she will not mind that these little froggies are dressed in pink.
I also finally finished the teachers gifts for Gabbie's daycare/preschool teachers.
She has been there four years and has had nine teacher / caregivers, and all have played a very major role in her life.  Even though graduation was last week, she will be there throughout the summer until she starts kindergarten this year at school.

I'm packaging these up today and sending a little note along with them.  I wish I could have done more, but when you're doing nine of something, you have to keep it simple.

And, here is our graduate.
