A Chance of Rain

I haven't named this one officially yet, but it's made from April Showers charms so I thought a 'rain' name would be fitting.

I finished it up last night and gave it a washing.  (Note to self: do not use towels in the wash with a navy quilt.  The fuzz will require some serious sticky roller attention!  Next time use pillowcases or anything lint free to balance out the washer!)

This is always one of my favorite places to photograph my quilts.  I like the way the quilt hangs, but I really just love the background (even when the grass needs mowing).  I think I need to get my BoyChild, BabyBrother, and Nephew to build me a section of split rail fencing here just for photographing my quilts!

The "roll" .... even though mine is rolled a bit haphazardly, I still like it.  

These are quick photos with my phone.  I will be taking more (and hopefully) better photos later with my real camera before adding to my Etsy site.  

There is minimal quilting on this one ... mostly I went along (just inside of) all the navy blue seams. 

If you're interested before I get it on my Etsy listing, just drop me an email or leave a comment here.  It measures approx 40" x 47" after washing.  Charms are April Showers, blue is Bella Solids, backing is flannel from Hancock Fabrics.  Binding is a print from April Showers.  It has been pre-washed with unscented detergent and fabric softener.  I will wash it again before shipping to remove any dust/dirt that may have been picked up during photographing.  Cost is $85 + shipping (medium flat rate priority mail box $12.00)

Limeade ...

New quilt Limeade ... finished.

My favorite of all the photos. 

I had one little glitch.  When I got done I washed it and a small part of the binding came loose.  So I unstitched the binding all the way around and restitched with a zigzag.  Not quite as pretty but very durable.  It has been rewashed/dried and held up well.

"Limeade" made from fat quarters of (City Blocks / Lime and Grey / Bernatex) from Bear Creek Quilting Company. Binding is grey/white polka dots from Hobby Lobby and is attached with a zig zag stitch for duarability. Backing is (Sweet Things / Lime Stripe / Holly Holderman) from Fat Quarter Shop. Measures 39" x 39".

Of course I forgot to put the label on ... but I can still add that ... I'm going to call this one "Confetti".  The top is made from the leftovers of Playmate.   The back is flannel.

 There are a couple of spots where my points didn't match exactly ... but for a first time HST quilt, I am happy.

Rainbows for Mollie

Mollie is a ten year old in our community that was recently diagnosed with a brain tumor.  She had surgery, and is now taking chemo and radiation.  You can follow Mollie's story on facebook.

I don't know Mollie personally, but am acquainted with some of her extended family members, and am friends with many of her friends.  I'm currently in a Bible study group with Mollie's elementary school principal, so I've made this quilt for Mollie and it will be given from our Bible study group. 

 

I'm not real happy with that label but I was running out of time last night to get it done and washed and dried so I can take it to our final Bible study class tonight.  Hopefully it will get to Mollie by the end of the week.  So if you're reading this, and you know Mollie ..... shhhhhh, don't tell!

Mollie was able to go to school Thursday after her radiation treatment, and her principal texted me this picture of her with her teacher and her Mom.  

 

 

"Sassy"

So, I decided to name Sadie's quilt "Sassy", partly because of the fabric line, Sasparilla, and partly because I think Sadie is gonna have a sassy personality.  We could see evidence of that even before she was born (seriously, you could see the attitude on the sonogram!)

 

The lighting wasn't optimal this morning, it's pretty dreary outside, but still better than the crappy indoor lighting in my house.

 

It's made from Sasparilla (Riley Blake) charm packs, with yardage from the same line for the binding and back.

 

 

Oddly, only the horizontal quilting shows up in this pic, but I promise there are vertical lines as well.

 

See, I told ya! 

 

 

(And look how much straighter this straight-line quilting is than it was on my previous quilt!)

 

I'm not extremely happy with this label, but at least it has the pertinent info on it.

 

The pen I used was too fine, I had to trace over the writing several times.  I'll have to order a new pen. 

 

Now I just have to give her a good washing (I used basting spray so I want to get all that out) and she will be ready for Miss Sadie to snuggle with.

Playmate

I've decided to call this quilt "Playmate".  Now I just have to make a label for it.

Sweet Sadie Mae (real name is Sadie Lynn) got a chance to try it out last night.   I got to babysit her for about 8 hours yesterday afternoon/evening while her parents had their first real grownup date in several months. 

Gabbie came over to visit for an hour or so.  Gabbie prefers the smaller polka dots.  She always turns it over to that side. 

And seriously, does life get any better than this?  

Finally Finished!

Way back on June 8th I went shopping looking for fabric for a floor quilt / play mat for Miss Sadie.

 

I found this:

 

 

On June 17th I got the top done:

 

 

Then on June 26th, I did some stitching in the vicinity of the ditch, and some straightish line quilting:

 

 

Last weekend I finally found some great fabric for the binding.  Actually, it's a good thing it took me so long to get around to buying the fabric and binding the quilt because those few short weeks ago I would have never ever considered using striped binding for a dotted quilt!

 

 

And I can't even begin to describe how much I love my wonder clips! 

 

 

Thanks so much to all my blogger friends who post such great projects and share their ideas via tutorials with lots of closeup pics and details - and even a few youtube videos!  I did have to pull out the binding on the first corner ... in spite of fantastic tutorials I still managed to mess up that first corner so it wouldn't fold over and miter correctly.  (I have a really close personal relationship with my seam-ripper!)

 

And now ......

 

It's finished!!

 

 

 

 

I can't wait for Sadie to come visit so she can play on it!

WIP and Other Random Stuff ...

 

I'm gonna start by wishing my daddy a very happy 79th birthday!

 

And that sweet little thing holding his hand is our very favorite work in progress!

 

 

As for quilting WIP's, I'm still on the same one from last week.

 

For quilting, I've just stitched in the vicinity of the ditch.

 

 

But it doesn't look too bad from a distance.

 

 

 

I will add some more quilting since the squares are so large (approx. 8").

 

I'm thinking just more straight(ish) line stitching.

 

And as an added bonus today, I'm going to answer one of life's greatest questions for you.

 

Why are there holes in crocs?
