Back In Business

After a hiatus, my Etsy shop is now open again.

Through the holidays I sold items at a local shop Art.Craft.Play and it was a wonderful experience.

The owner, Shannon was great to work with and I sold quite a few items from Oct to December.

Business is slower after the holidays and she is cutting her hours back for the next three months or so,  so I'm back in business with my Etsy shop now.

A Busy Busy Week(end)

It's been a busy long weekend around my house!! 

I've been making things in anticipation of adding items to a new shop that is opening near me that will have a selection of things from local craft vendors.  They've invited several of us to come tomorrow night to see the space (almost finished with the renovation) and find out a little bit about how things will work.  

I've made Alabama and Auburn reversible dresses (because I live in the heart of Alabama and the rivalry is huge!)   The dresses are completely reversible. 

I made bloomers for this one because it is if Ivy Rose, but I will not be making any more size 3mo bloomers!  Just too fidgety to work with!!  (I will try a 6 month size maybe)

I also made her a sleep sack.  

It works well, but I will make the neckline a little lower on the next one.  And BabyGurl has asked for a lighter weight one (this one was made with some scraps of fleece, so I will use flannel on the next one.) 

And another new pattern I tried.  I did not like sewing with gathers 30 years ago, and I still do not like it!  :-)

She had to have "Ewik's" sunglasses.  She's such a diva (sometimes)! 

And Miss Ivy Rose went for her one month (34 days old) checkup today and she is 9 lb 4 oz and 22 inches.  (She has grown three pounds and three inches!!!!) 

She's on her way to visit me now, so there'll be pictures on the next blog update!

Sewy Stuff at Kelly's Korner

Many of you reading this already follow my blog (thank you!) but for those of you that are new here, I'll give you a brief bio.  

My name is Paula and I am mother to two (BoyChild and BabyGurl), grandmother to two (Sadie Lynn and Ivy Rose) and great-aunt to Gabbie-Lou-Who.  You can read a little more on my about me page.  

I've sewn most of my life in one fashion or another, and have recently started quilting, and am now sewing for three sweet girls. 

Many of my items are made for my girls, and as gifts for friends, but I have an Etsy Shop for my surplus items.  I make baby quilts, bibs, burp cloths and other baby accessories, purses, and many other items.  I also will take orders if you see something that has previously sold and is not currently in stock, or if you would like something in a different color combination or size.

A Chance of Rain

I haven't named this one officially yet, but it's made from April Showers charms so I thought a 'rain' name would be fitting.

I finished it up last night and gave it a washing.  (Note to self: do not use towels in the wash with a navy quilt.  The fuzz will require some serious sticky roller attention!  Next time use pillowcases or anything lint free to balance out the washer!)

This is always one of my favorite places to photograph my quilts.  I like the way the quilt hangs, but I really just love the background (even when the grass needs mowing).  I think I need to get my BoyChild, BabyBrother, and Nephew to build me a section of split rail fencing here just for photographing my quilts!

The "roll" .... even though mine is rolled a bit haphazardly, I still like it.  

These are quick photos with my phone.  I will be taking more (and hopefully) better photos later with my real camera before adding to my Etsy site.  

There is minimal quilting on this one ... mostly I went along (just inside of) all the navy blue seams. 

If you're interested before I get it on my Etsy listing, just drop me an email or leave a comment here.  It measures approx 40" x 47" after washing.  Charms are April Showers, blue is Bella Solids, backing is flannel from Hancock Fabrics.  Binding is a print from April Showers.  It has been pre-washed with unscented detergent and fabric softener.  I will wash it again before shipping to remove any dust/dirt that may have been picked up during photographing.  Cost is $85 + shipping (medium flat rate priority mail box $12.00)

Limeade ...

New quilt Limeade ... finished.

My favorite of all the photos. 

I had one little glitch.  When I got done I washed it and a small part of the binding came loose.  So I unstitched the binding all the way around and restitched with a zigzag.  Not quite as pretty but very durable.  It has been rewashed/dried and held up well.

Baby Quilt

Of course I forgot to put the label on ... but I can still add that ... I'm going to call this one "Confetti".  The top is made from the leftovers of Playmate.   The back is flannel.

 There are a couple of spots where my points didn't match exactly ... but for a first time HST quilt, I am happy.

Something For Me!

Since I started back sewing - and started quilting - earlier this year, I've made several things, and really have nothing to show for it!  But that's ok, I love making things for other people.

 

But I've finally made something for me!  It's not a biggie, but it's something I wanted / needed. 

 

A new tote bag!

I found the owl fabric in a thrift store bundle back in June, and fell in love with it.  It was not a huge piece, and not suitable for a quilt (more of a canvas feel) so I just put it aside and every so often I would look at it wish I could think of something for it. 

 

I've recently been using an ages old bag I made twenty something years ago to carry my Bible study book and iPad (which I use as my Bible) to my current Bible study class.  This bag has been through the wringer so to speak.  I actually made it for my grandmother (who passed away 13 years ago) and it's been used as a diaper bag for the now 5 yr old, so it's seen better days (but still holding together wonderfully, though getting a bit threadbare). 

 

So, last night I put together this bag for me!  But, I got in such a hurry I forgot to add any pockets.  <insert pouty face here>  I had intended to add a patch pocket to the front, and a couple of pockets to the inside, for necessities like my phone, and pens/pencils.  So, the next best solution was a zipper pouch for my pencils and other small items (including my phone). 

 

It's just a small lined tote, with a boxed-corner bottom (and again, without a pattern I just randomly boxed, and made the bottom a little wider than I needed, but oh well, it works). 

 

And hey, the fabric is so darn cute, nobody's gonna know I meant to make it different! 

I also finished Gabbie's Bama Birthday Quilt last weekend.  She will get it at her party Sunday.  I hope to get some good pictures of her with it, if not Sunday at the party, very soon. 



It's not quite 'official' twin sized (as you can see from the picture) and it will be going to her home where she has a full sized bed, but she won't care if it 'fits' the bed or not - plus hopefully this one wont be to big / heavy for her to drag around the house with her.  It's a bit heavy due to using batting and fleece backing.  I debated on using the batting and decided it needed that extra body, but now I'm not so sure.  I definitely would not use both batting and fleece backing in a baby quilt, it would be much to heavy for an infant. 

 

I'm also excited to say I had several items purchased from my Etsy store this week, and I have added more items.
