WIP Wednesday

I finally had some time the past couple of weeks to work on something that was not "for" anybody.  So I googled some fat quarter and layer cake pattern/tutorials and found this one for fat quarters.

It calls for 12 fat quarters, but I had a bundle that had nine coordinating quarters, so that is what I used.  My finished quilt will be approx 40" square.

Then I saw this striped fabric on the Fat Quarter Shop's Flash Sale page, and thought it would make a perfect backing.  It's not a 100% match but for the backing I think it will be great.

I've never used a striped backing before and I'm pretty sure the stripes are gonna be a little 'off' along the edges, but I'm not gonna obsess over it too much.

I have it almost basted and hope to start quilting on it in the next day or so.  Between keeping the grandbaby a couple of times this week, and my daughter's upcoming baby shower this weekend, it might be a week or two before I get it done.  I'm in no hurry.

WIP's Wednesday

I actually have several projects going on right now.

Last week Gabbie-Lou-Who and I went to Hobby Lobby for the makings of some little matching dresses for her and Sadie Mae* to wear to wear to church this coming up Sunday (when I will be babysitting Sadie).

We I had hoped for matching tshirts but Gabbie insisted on the blue and there was no blue in Sadie's size.  There was pink in Gabbie's size but she was having no part of it.  And truthfully, blue is a great color on her.

So this is where I am so far.  All I have to do to finish Sadie's is attach the skirt.  I did mange to get it pinned while I was at lunch today (I'm fortunate to work two miles from home so I can take a little break from the office at lunch time vs eating in the breakroom/kitchen area).

Tonight I will measure Gabbie so I will know where to cut the tshirt and how long to make the skirt.

I've made a few teacher gifts for Gabbie's daycare/preschool teachers.  She has been with them for nearly four years and they have really been a blessing.  They love her like their own and we often kid that she is the assistant director at the day care.

I have four done and enough fabric for one more.  But I think I need about eight of them, so I have to decide whether to order more of the same, or just use something on hand.  I do have some more school themed fabric, and I don't think they are going to argue over who gets what fabric.  I really wish I could do more for them than a notebook cover, but when you're making for eight .....

This is BabyGurl's diaper bag, partially cut out.  I have about four more weeks til her baby shower so I'll be good to go by then.  (Of course I also want to do some blankets, and bibs, and ..... )

And this is another purse like the one I did for my DIL for Christmas.  She has a friend who wants one.  I have it cut out and interfaced so it wont take long to stitch it up.

And this is my sewing table with all the projects piled on it!  Oh my!

I've been so busy with gifts and personal items lately I haven't had time to add much new stuff to the Etsy Shop, but if you're a new visitor to my blog, drop by and check it out.

You can follow me on Facebook, and I've recently joined Instagram, so drop by and say hi.  I try to follow back anybody who follows me (though occasionally I do miss an alert, so feel free to call me out on it if you need to!)

WIP - Christmas Presents ....

Okay, I can't show the actual projects / gifts, because the recipients follow my blog.  But I can show you some of the fabrics.
I've made one gift from this fabric, and am making a second (different) gift for another recipient.
(That blue is a brighter, more turquois color than this pic shows)

And I've made one gift from this fabric, and a second (same) gift for another recipient from other Chrtistmas fabrics (all used up so no leftovers to photograph).

I'm enjoying matching gifts and fabrics to the recipients' likes and personalities.  I hope they get as much pleasure from receiving/ using them as I have gotten while making them.

I will show pictures of the finished products after they have been gifted (I'm sure I'll have them in the mail to said recipients around Thanksgiving; patience is not one of my virtues!)

Rainbows for Mollie

Mollie is a ten year old in our community that was recently diagnosed with a brain tumor.  She had surgery, and is now taking chemo and radiation.  You can follow Mollie's story on facebook.

I don't know Mollie personally, but am acquainted with some of her extended family members, and am friends with many of her friends.  I'm currently in a Bible study group with Mollie's elementary school principal, so I've made this quilt for Mollie and it will be given from our Bible study group.

I'm not real happy with that label but I was running out of time last night to get it done and washed and dried so I can take it to our final Bible study class tonight.  Hopefully it will get to Mollie by the end of the week.  So if you're reading this, and you know Mollie ..... shhhhhh, don't tell!

Mollie was able to go to school Thursday after her radiation treatment, and her principal texted me this picture of her with her teacher and her Mom.

What I'm Working On Wednesday .........

Working on several little odds and ends this week.

This little bag and crayon roll are part of a birthday gift for a co-workers two-year old who is having his party this weekend.  I also plan to add a couple of books to the gift bag.

I used this tutorial for the crayon roll.  I just sort of made up my own pattern for the bag.  It's just a simple lined bag with a  boxed-corner bottom.

Next up, a new item in the Etsy shop.

Fingerless gloves, at only $5 per pair!

I used this pattern/tutorial (with some slight modifications, the 'fingers' were too long for me using the original pattern).  Also, different threads / needle sizes make a difference of course!

I'm also running a sale in the Etsy shop.  With coupon code SEWY15 you can get 15% off your entire order (excluding shipping).

That means this lap/throw quilt is now only $64 after you apply your 15% discount!

If you have any trouble applying the discount coupon code please let me know.  This is my first time to use the Etsy coupon codes.

Have a wonderful Wednesday!!

Whew! It's Wednesday!

I haven't done much sewing in the past week, so you can look at my last Wednesday post to see my latest project.  But I have had a busy busy week!

My mom had back surgery Monday (surgery went well, she will just need a little extra time to heal a very large incision), so the Gabster has been with me since Sunday afternoon.  (She actually lives with my parents who are her guardians, and as a great-aunt I actually play the role of grandmother, whereas her great-grandparents actually play the role of parents!)

Good grief!  Did I actually say actually that many times?

So ... I did do a wee bit of sewing on some charm squares that I work on in between projects.  I mean, after all, I couldn't work on my current project since it is a birthday present for Gabbie.

So, she sewed too.  By sewed I mean she worked on her patch (one that I had kind of messed up) and she measured, and when I went to iron seams we ironed her seams, and then back we'd go.

She is multi-tasking by sewing and talking on her sponge iPod at the same time.  She took a quick break to 'type' (her word for texting) before finally getting back to business.  Monkey business that is!

Last night we went to our local county fair.  It was her first time at the fair.  She loved it!  The first ride she wasn't so sure of, but after that it was smooth sailing.  We had to ride the moster trucks twice!  (Yes, I said 'we').  :-o

Hers and Sadie's "Playmate" quilt got 3rd place ribbon in the baby quilt division. We're good with that!

And here is our Sweet Sadie Mae* with her Mommy and Daddy.  This was on Sunday after she turned two months old on Thursday.  In two short months she has gained one ounce shy of four pounds, and has grown three and three-quarter inches!

Broke open my Sasparilla charm packs last night to get started on a new quilt for Miss Sadie.

And still working on this quilt along with Polly.

I did have two great finishes already this week (yeah, I'm excited!) if you want to read about my diaper bag and play quilt.

Happy Wednesday y'all !!

Hexies And More ...

I'm working along with Polly for this half-hexie quilt along.  You can see in her instructions I will need at least 84 half-hexies.

You can see in this picture I need 82 more!

I had planned to cut quite a lot last night while the wee one was at Bible School, but instead I had to spend my time on the phone with DirecTV about some issues with my DVR (still not resolved, still troubleshooting, which means another call today, argh!)

So this morning before work I just had to cut those two hexies just to see what it was all about.  Yay!  I love them!  Will be time consuming til I get a few under my belt then I hope it will speed up. I'll cut more tonight (I should get a lot done with no tv to watch, right?)

I also went to our local thrift store yesterday to look for baby things (I go at least twice a week!)

I got this baby bathtub ... and loaded it up with fabric pieces!

The yellow and hot pink pieces are a jersey type fabric that I hope will make up into some baby washcloths / towels, or maybe the backs of some burp cloths / bibs (or all of the above!)

The green is corduroy, the burgundy is fleece (a HUGE piece for $1.00), 2 yard of the orange cotton (I have some Halloween fat quarters / remnants that I can pair this with).

I also scored this playmat (with lights and sound!) for $2.00!

Edited to add:  Wednesday night I got three (of nine) fabrics cut!

I Got Nothing Wednesday

No new works in progress here.

No more progress made on the bubble quilt.

I did pick up some fabric Saturday to make Sadie a play/floor quilt.

Monday afternoon was for cutting grass, Tuesday afternoon was for housekeeping (yuck!)

This afternoon will be taking Gabbie to the dentist (just a checkup).

Tomorrow will be more grass cutting (I have 5 acres).

This weekend will be non-stop Gabbie.

But just because I don't have anything, don't let that stop you from checking out the sites in my right-hand sidebar to see all the great projects others are linking up!

One thing I did accomplish this weekend was setting up a Facebook Page and an Etsy Shop.

I hope you can stop by and check them out sometime.
