Friday Finish

Just a quick finish to show today.

My niece asked me a while back for a purse like the ones I've been making for everyone.  I told her what kind and how much fabric to get and she picked out her own designs / colors and brought them to me.  She ended up buying fabric for two purses.

This week I finally got a chance to make one of them for her.

I've also made some crib bumpers for Sweet Sadie, but I have no pictures of those.  Hopefully I will get them to her this weekend and we can get some pics of them in the crib.  They turned out pretty good.  I didn't do anything fancy, just picked out some cute fabrics to use.

Friday Finishes ...

I have a couple of finishes this week.

First up, tshirt dresses for Gabbie-Lou-Who and Sweet Sadie.

Next time I'll make the skirts fuller, but otherwise I'm pleased.
Second up is another pleated purse.  It was a commission for a friend of a friend and unforseen circumstances made her unable to take it so it is listed here in the Etsy Shop.
Now, on to finish up a diaper bag and some blankets, bibs, burp cloths and all that jazz for the soon to arrive Ivy Rose!

Lot Of Firsts ...

I followed this tutorial for the Cookie Plate Crumb Catcher from The Crafty Quilter.

I still have to give it a final trim and bind it - probably in solid red, which I don't have any of.  I think the red/white print would make a good binding but I don't think I have enough of it left.  Not without a whole lot of piecing.

Lots of firsts in this for me.  First time for HST's, square in square, and pinwheels.  Also, I didn't do just straight line quilting.  Well yes, all the quilting lines are straight (or relatively so), but it's not just lines all the way across the whole thing.

I had trouble visualizing the layout and getting my colors where I wanted them - in retrospect I wish I'd reversed the fabric layout between the black triangles and the green squares.  But still, not bad for a first go.  And it's made with some random fat quarters I picked up at Hancock Fabrics last week for $1 each, so it was a thrifty little project.

I also used different color threads top and bobbin.  It turned out ok, but I'm not sure it's something I'd do for a bigger project.  At least not without a lot more practice and some major finagling with the tension settings to make sure the threads don't pull through.  The quilting doesn't really show up with the red bobbin, but I am glad I didn't go with the white in the bobbin.  Maybe some gold would've been nice?

I recommend this for a quick easy project.

Getting my Whoop on today with Sarah.

EDITED TO UPDATE:
I just couldn't leave it alone.  But wow, binding this little bugger was a chore!

And .... since I actually finished it, I'm also linking up with Richard (&Tanya Quilts), and Amanda Jean (Crazy Mom Quilts)

Custom Order - Friday Finish

A co-worker had asked me about making some pillow covers for her daughter.  Her daughter is in her first apartment and bought a new sofa, and she doesn't like the throw pillows that came with the sofa.  So she picked out some fabrics and brought them to me and I made the covers.

This is a pic of the fabrics, and the beige is the color of the sofa (it's actually the back of one of the pillows).

These are the completed pillow covers.

I actually made two covers from each fabric, but I only had one of her pillows (for measuring) so I couldn't take a 'group shot' of them.  I'm going to ask her if once she has them all on her pillows and on the sofa she will send me a pic.

They are a Friday Finish because I stayed up to get them done last night because I didn't want to wait all the way til Monday to give them to her.  Of course, I did not know that she was going to be off today, so now I have to wait til Monday anyway.  (But hey, it got me a post for a Friday Finish!)

A Friday Finish!

Ok, so it's not a quilt, but it's finished.
I did both of these projects last night.

And I'm linking it to Crazy Mom Quilts and Confessions Of A Fabric Addict .

And The Scoop.

Tomorrow I will actually have a few hours all to myself (without the probability of a four year old calling for Aunt Paula to come get her) so I am going fabric drooling shopping.

I have an idea for making a floor quilt for baby Sadie to roll around on (because even clean carpet is dirty and my carpet is old!)

Hopefully I can have it ready by the time she arrives (I have six weeks from tomorrow if she agrees with the doctor on her due date).

I'd tell you what the pattern is but I have no idea.  I just saw something I like and I'm going to try something similar.  I will tell you this much: it's all rectangles and sashing.  No triangles, no corners to match!!
