WIP(s) Wednesday!

Broke open my Sasparilla charm packs last night to get started on a new quilt for Miss Sadie.

And still working on this quilt along with Polly.

I did have two great finishes already this week (yeah, I'm excited!) if you want to read about my diaper bag and play quilt.

Happy Wednesday y'all !!

Finally Finished!

Notice: This post might be considered picture overload!

Way back on June 8th I went shopping looking for fabric for a floor quilt / play mat for Miss Sadie.

I found this:

On June 17th I got the top done:

Then on June 26th, I did some stitching in the vicinity of the ditch, and some straightish line quilting:

Last weekend I finally found some great fabric for the binding.  Actually, it's a good thing it took me so long to get around to buying the fabric and binding the quilt because those few short weeks ago I would have never ever considered using striped binding for a dotted quilt!

And I can't even begin to describe how much I love my wonder clips!

Thanks so much to all my blogger friends who post such great projects and share their ideas via tutorials with lots of closeup pics and details - and even a few youtube videos!  I did have to pull out the binding on the first corner ... in spite of fantastic tutorials I still managed to mess up that first corner so it wouldn't fold over and miter correctly.  (I have a really close personal relationship with my seam-ripper!)

And now ......

It's finished!!

I can't wait for Sadie to come visit so she can play on it!

Zippers! Bags! Pouches!

I still do not love zippers.

However, I no longer fear them.

Last week BoyChild said "you know Mom, some pockets in the diaper bag sure would've been nice.  Do you know how hard it is to find a paci in the bottom of that big bag?"

When I made their diaper bag several weeks (months?) ago, I knew nothing about pockets, zippers, or linings.

I have since made bags with linings, and pockets, but not zippers.

So yesterday I sucked it up, looked up several tutorials, and gave it a go.

The result:

Quilted, lined bag

With a patch pocket on front

I even made a zipper pouch (that was much easier than the zippers on the inside pockets!)

Two inside zipper pockets, and a small paci-pocket

Another view of the zipper pouch

 And the back side

It has very long handles.  BoyChild and DIL are both very tall.

I hope they like it!

Miss Sadie had her two week checkup today (she was actually two weeks old Friday) and she has gained a pound and grown an inch and a quarter!  She's gonna be tall like her Momma and Daddy!

'After' Pictures

A couple of weeks ago I took on a custom order for valances and chair pockets for an elementary classroom.

Today I got pictures from the teacher after the valances were hung, and the pockets on the back of all the chairs.

Linking up with Amanda Jean today.

Hexies And More ...

I'm working along with Polly for this half-hexie quilt along.  You can see in her instructions I will need at least 84 half-hexies.

You can see in this picture I need 82 more!

I had planned to cut quite a lot last night while the wee one was at Bible School, but instead I had to spend my time on the phone with DirecTV about some issues with my DVR (still not resolved, still troubleshooting, which means another call today, argh!)

So this morning before work I just had to cut those two hexies just to see what it was all about.  Yay!  I love them!  Will be time consuming til I get a few under my belt then I hope it will speed up. I'll cut more tonight (I should get a lot done with no tv to watch, right?)

I also went to our local thrift store yesterday to look for baby things (I go at least twice a week!)

I got this baby bathtub ... and loaded it up with fabric pieces!

The yellow and hot pink pieces are a jersey type fabric that I hope will make up into some baby washcloths / towels, or maybe the backs of some burp cloths / bibs (or all of the above!)

The green is corduroy, the burgundy is fleece (a HUGE piece for $1.00), 2 yard of the orange cotton (I have some Halloween fat quarters / remnants that I can pair this with).

I also scored this playmat (with lights and sound!) for $2.00!

Edited to add:  Wednesday night I got three (of nine) fabrics cut!

Next!

Yay!!  Just finished up this custom project ....

And now I'm ready for this!

With these fabrics!

(I also have a Sadie quilt and a Gabbie quilt to make, along with another diaper bag for Sadie's momma now that I know how to do pockets and am not afraid to try zippers!)

A New Custom Project ...

The person I made the custom pillow covers for last week has given me a new project.

She is an elementary teacher and is going to decorate her room.

Today she brought me fabrics for valances (the aqua and the print).  She also included a picture a fellow teacher's room for an example of what she wants (see last photo).

She also brought fabric for chair pouches (and an example shown below).  These will be made from the green and navy fabric.  I've put the sample on a couple of 2x4's here for this picture, but these slip over the back of the students chairs, with a pocket for holding some of their supplies.

These two projects should keep me busy until my fabric order (that I placed just this morning) comes in.

Sadie will be getting a quilt made from the new Sasparilla collection.

It's ok, I can tell you that because her Mommy and Daddy don't read my blog.  However, I can't share it on Facebook!

Yes, I'll be stalking the mailman ... again!

And I'll be at our local Hancock Fabrics Saturday (they are having a big sale) to get the fabric for Gabbie's birthday present (October).

Shhhhhh, don't tell her, she is going to get a "Roll Tide" quilt!

No!  I do not have a fabric addiction.  Yet.  But I'm well on my way!

I almost forgot!  The co-worker's granddaughter who got the custom purse last week, wondered if perhaps her two dolls could have purses as well.  So I'll be fashioning some tiny pink/green purses for Isabella and Josephine!

Welcome To The World!

We now interrupt this blog for a non-sewy announcement!

Welcome to the world Miss Sadie Lynn ....

8 lbs 11 oz .... 20 3/4 inches .... 9:35 pm July 12, 2013.

Except for a few minutes for the first feeding, Papa didn't want to let go of her.  I hope to get to spend some 'quality time' with her tomorrow.

I'm Ready ....

Well, almost ready ...... I still need to get a table in my 'new sewing room' (aka teeny tiny bedroom).

These fabrics arrived today!

Half Yard Bundle of Black, White and Currant lll & lV by Color Principle for Henry Glass

Here is a better idea of what they look like.

And this is what I am going to do with them!

Come on along!

Custom Order - Friday Finish

A co-worker had asked me about making some pillow covers for her daughter.  Her daughter is in her first apartment and bought a new sofa, and she doesn't like the throw pillows that came with the sofa.  So she picked out some fabrics and brought them to me and I made the covers.

This is a pic of the fabrics, and the beige is the color of the sofa (it's actually the back of one of the pillows).

These are the completed pillow covers.

I actually made two covers from each fabric, but I only had one of her pillows (for measuring) so I couldn't take a 'group shot' of them.  I'm going to ask her if once she has them all on her pillows and on the sofa she will send me a pic.

They are a Friday Finish because I stayed up to get them done last night because I didn't want to wait all the way til Monday to give them to her.  Of course, I did not know that she was going to be off today, so now I have to wait til Monday anyway.  (But hey, it got me a post for a Friday Finish!)
